That is correct, No chip for these being 2003, it would be OBD2, so you would probably be able to interface with the ECU and reprogram without chipping as such. Still not something i do without the car with me as i'm no internet tuner

I wouldn't worry about those marks. I see them pretty commonly on the ECU's these days that have been left "open" for a while. the PCB's are also coated in a protective coating that stops the tracks having issues Should work fine. GrpA Will have a 8600 RPM limiter, mroe advanced timing map...

You would be best to speak with a qualified tuner or Haltech themselves for a base map. The Base map will relate to trigger type, Ignition firing type, Standard Dizzy firing or individual coils. Have you checked for error codes? Disconnecting the Maf and it running right may only be shortly solving the issue as richens the mixture heavily with MAF Disconnected.. You could be even suffering from a vacuum leak?

ECU's are back from exchange.

MK3's are ready. and be done with Turbo, GrpA Or Rospen maps.

Spot on.. I basicly always advise running the MAF in the factory location on the pressured section.. as the MAF Readings spike in air flow trigger the timing to start retarding and the fuel injectors to pump more fuel

For Turbo your best with high lift and close to stock duration i believe is what i've heard, where Big NA Cams tend to come with more duration, overlap and lift.
