Hey everyone, just wondering what speakers are best for the swift, as i understand it the fronts are 6 inch?, will 6.5 inch fit? any advice on what too look for component wise, i am willing to spend about $2000 on a new sound system.
For now I am thinking HU alpine, then front splits 6.5 inch? 4 channel amp and sub. although i do not know much about car audio and any help and/or past experience with this matter on the new swifts would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Basicly for a decent setup your on the money!
Decent Headunit
4 Channel Amp
Decent Sub
Set of 6' splits upfront
Thats bout all you need really!
Optional is to put some speakers in the rear for some rear fill... But thats very much optional!

i got a mk 2 swift
up the front on top of the dash the default stock speakers are little 4" speakers
personaly i just have 2 6x9's running in the parcel tray with a sub in the backseat (wont fit in boot yet need to make custom box)
i found with the 6x9's and the 4"speakers running at once was abit loud so im happy with just the 6x9's in the parcel shelf they make pleanty of noise for me
Fairly certain that this guy has a new swift and majority of people would disagree with your setup.GTI-748 wrote:gday mate, blackss wrote:thanks mate but what speakers fit, do 6.5 inch fit.. or do they need to be 6 inch?

The factory upgrade speakers for a new swift are 6.5" from memory, and don't sound to bad. there little underseat sub/amp combo unit can put out quite a bit of bass if you tune it properly. All plugs straight into the factory unit if you don't want to have a go at replacing the head unit. Would work out much cheaper but you won't get as good sound quality out of it compared to a mid range Pioneer or (gtaye's favourite) Soundstream headunit running one big amp. It really does all come down to budget.
*EDIT* There is some sort of spacer that comes in the sound upgrade package but from memory the mechanic I was learning from didn't use them

thanks shazlik,
yeah i should have specified its an 08 swift, sorry about that.
i do want to replace the head unit and am planning also on putting an amp in,
i was just concerned what speakers should i be looking at, because i have been looking at 6.5 inch front speakers and was worried that maybe only 6inch ones would fit...
looking at bostons or maybe response, any ideas? budget = $ 300
many thanks

6 and 6.5" speakers are a little funny. I had 6's and then upgraded to a 6.5" and didn't need to change anything (this was in a fiberglass pod), however ghostg13b bought 6.5"s and needed to trim the pod, same brand pod. So it also depends on the size of the spearkers rear coil/magnet

Yeah, I'm very happy with the ones the one that mine came with from the factory, now.blackss wrote:interesting, i guess i should ask an audio shop before i buy the speakers, just in case they dont fit then, has anyone used a particular pair of speakers that they are very happy with in the new swifts?
They're a bargain price too, plus easy to install :-p
If your getting an amp and speakers, get the amp first, then sub, then think about the front stage. I'm not the only person running a nice clean sounding system using the factory front speakers. They image nicely as is, given a little bit more watts. I'm running 120wrms from an ancient alpine amp, crossed over at around 120hz, i think 12db/oct slope.
don't get me wrong, better after market speakers are available, but I reckon give the factory ones a chance first.
I was going to bin them as well, but I heard someone else saying they weren't too bad

i replaced my fronts with the woofers from a set of 6" pioneer splits, not even using crossovers but they are louder now but not as bassful but the sub takes care of that anyway
they were pains in the arse to fit in though, not happy at all with the fitment but they do a dam good job of it

MK2's have 4"s up front, shocking.. bought myself a set of speaker holders for 6's which were drilled into the doors, looks flush, matches the black interior. (just a recommendation - might throw some pictures up tonight)

But guys the main point is that do I get it fitted by some professional or do it myself. I haven't done it before nor I any prior experience.
It's not really a huge mess to get your head around and if you want to save a couple of hundred dollars (what they'll rip you to put it in) plus gain important knowledge (one day your stereo will have a hiccup of some sort, 5 minutes up under the dash or 50 bucks at a store), I'd say do it yourself. I learned myself and now do all my own stereo work including speakers, subs and amps.
Get yourself a set of wire strippers, little snips, pliers, male and female spade terminals and crimper and lot of 4mm wire (red and black is the best to differentiate between negative and positive)! When (and if) you decide to have a go at it, read the manuals that come with the equipment thoroughly and do it to the letter otherwise you may end up with short circuits and blown fuses! If you feel you're getting swamped down and aren't comfortable doing it at any time during the install, take it to a professional. Just remember that the hardest part will only be the head unit, the rest is fairly straight forward.
Oh, and when you're done with all of the install, the only thing I'd do if you have some spare money that you're willing to spend is take it to a pro to tune it so you get the most out of your system. It's all I'd ever use a pro for and trust me, it'll be worth it.
Good luck!
