i've had my 12in sub and amp for a while now and reciently it has started making random popping noises. I'm thinking it might be cause there so old, has any one else had the same problems with Autio Pipe subs??? I'm trying to figgure out if it's the amp or the sub. Help is appreciated, Cheers, [email protected]

Popping sounds like the speaker in the sub may be dying or your cables are a little mixed up. Your RCA cables from the head deck aren't running with your power wires to the amp are they, because that can cause interference with the signal and thus, poor sound quality, pops, buzzing and more. If they're not, take the sub out of the car and grab a mate who has a sub in his car and check if yours runs okay in his, if it plays the same, then you can safely assume your sub is rooted ;)

thanks mate, i ran all the power down the pass side of the car and the speaker wires and RCA's on the driver side, they only go to under the seats so i don't know if the speaker wires are causing interference or not. i'll chuck another sub in and see if that works.

Random popping is either the amp or the head unit itself...

i've never heard of earthing the rca's unless it's like a bucket of sparks lol. i'll check the earth situation, i can't remember if i ground the paint off or not, i used the gear stick mounting bolts on the floor of the car.

I use my gear stick mounting point bolts as the earths for both my amps (which are under the front seats) and never had a problem in 5years.

Going to hijack the thread quickly (sorry OP  ).. I have an aftermarket ignition box in my bay on the firewall which makes a buzzing sound (which is normal). Problem i have is the buzzing sound is coming through my speakers aswell now. What is causing this and how do i fix it ?

i think you need a noise cancling thingy from super cheap, it cuts out the electrical interference that goes through your speakers.

I've had the 'popping noise' caused by a dry solder in one of my amps before - a friend who is gifted with a soldering iron fixed it for me good as new.

did it happen with yours straight away or did it take a few years to start happening?

Took a while to start happening, but the amps were copping a pounding from a pair of DVC 12"s in a 600+ RMS system.

When I had this problem, I diagnosed it quickly. Went to the rear with music playing; and jiggled one of the RCA's.

The rattling had worked the rca loose.

Good luck.
