hi there just been running a basic setup with sup and 6x9's on the parcel try all amped i also have a set of 6" speakers that i wish to install into my gti altho while i was going to install them i noticed couldnt fit them in the doors as it would hit the window and stuff so i never got around to installing them.
where would be the best place to mount the speakers, i wish to keep the little side pockets in the doors as they are handy for stuff, should i just put a pair of speaker pods just above them?

how do you guys have your front speakers setup,

please not i do not wish to use 4" speakers in default location due to already having some 6" speakers.

Thanks in advance,

put speaker pods where the map pockets are. Put drivers side map pocket on passengers side and vice versa mounted right next to the pod. I will get a picture of it on my car if i remember tomorrow.

I have done the same as both above and painted the pods. Looks pretty stock looking, other option is to get commodore Mapholders and put the speakers into them.
I have a GTI for a few reasons. The main one is because commonfalcons are like bellybuttons....everyone has one.

Keep in mind that is a four door. The 3dr ones are slightly longer so it doesn't fit as nicely as that one.

My main speakers are 280wt 6x9" Kenwoods on the parcel shelf .. Kenwood 25w x 4 head unit .. NewYorkSound 500wt amp running them .. Ive got a pair of 4" speakers 2-way mounted in-dash to give me some tweet to the front end .. bass (12Hz - 200Hz) has an area effect running all directions from its source .. woofer (200Hz - 5000Hz) is slightly directional where as tweet (5000Hz - 22000Hz) is extremely directional .. getting them right for your own ear is a trial and error method .. I dont have massive peak tweet in my ear while maintaining good bass .. no subs means the cops dont look at me and I dont have my car rattling apart from the bolts and seams

. . . anything more and I'd be drowning out the nice throbbing exhaust I had installed .. and to be honest Id rather hear the revs Im doing than the thump of NERO or Roni Size on my stereo .. so I worked out the best of both worlds
Cheers,

Hi, im looking to install some 6" or 6.5" speakers in the front of my gti too.
I went down to my local wreakers and asked them for commodore map holders except i didn't know what model or year of commodore have mapholders that aren't integrated in the doors.
would somebody be able to tell me what model of commodore I would have to be looking at to get the map holders.

thanks

Any audio stores should have pods.

Yes I did have the same until I recently changed them. They were to chunkey an out of place. I got these, they look a lot tidy then other one. Love the tweeter just sitting above. Looks neat in my opinion. Sounds awesome running of a four channel.

should get it angled so it aims towards your face.
is there any way to get it sitting flush in the door?

Depending on the mounting depth of the speaker and the diameter of the magnet, you can tuck them in nicely on custom door pods without losing legroom or listening angle.
Here's the custom pod setup I made for my wife, I'm also using 3" mid bass speakers for a passive radiator effect (using aftermarket crossovers)
If you give me measurements of your chosen speakers and a price range I could fab you a set out of fibreglass/mdf, vinyl trimming extra.
Let me know, custom pods are always more effective than a universal swap over (unless you've already completed your setup)
