Bit of background info.
Pionner Headunit
4" speakers in the dash
6x9's in parcel shelf
12" sub in boot
bridged 2 channel amp under passenger seat (for sub)
4 channel amp under drivers seat (for speakers)
Since changing headunits, i now have a faint buzzing sound coming through my speakers while headunit is switched on, but sound dissapears when headunit is turned off. Nothng else in the stereo has been changed but the headunit.
I did read it can be caused by a poor earth on the amps, aswell as the RCA cables being run to close together. What i dont understand is why its only started making this sound since changing the headunit ?
Anyone have any suggestions ?
I do plan to eventually replace the carpet in the car with a brand new item and replacing and re-running the wiring, which would involve removing the amps anyway, but for the time being im lookig for a quick fix.
I also have crap radio reception aswell since changing the headunit...?
weird buzzing sound coming through speakers

It doesnt sound like engine noise. It sounds like the "ticking" from my aftermarket ignition box being amplified and coming through the speakers.

this always works, sounds bad but trust me it works. Get a piece of wire and put it to the +rca (red) at the back of the head deck. (the wire has to touch the shaft piece of the rca) plug it back in and earth out the other end of the wire. Worked on every car i have had.
Still havent managed to fix the buzzing sound. Have gone over all the wiring checking RCA, earth and power cables for damage and making sure they are separate from eachother - no problems there.
Went to JAYCAR and bought an inline noise suppressor, wired it up - buzzing sound remains.
So i did a little research on google and came across a car audio forum that spoke about a problem with JAYCAR amps and PIONEER headunits (which im currently using).
Apparently in this setup, it is common for the amps to blow the internal fuse in the headunit causing all types of interference.
Dont know how true this is, but it would explain the problem only starting since my PIONEER headunit was installed....?

Not sure if the sound is coming from both amps... The buzzing sounds louder towards the back of the car (from the 6x9's). I might actually disconnect the 6x9 speakers and see if the buzzing is still there. Will do that after i finish cooking dinner tonight since the weather is crap and i doubt ill be going out anywhere.

follow this and it will solve your problem hertz was on the money a little fuse blows inside the head unit and cause this problem manly in pioneer head units.
DO THIS FOR EVERY RCA
pull the rca out of the head unit get a piece of wire strip the wire and bend the striped part of the wire into the shape of a U.
now place that striped bent piece of wire on the in side of the rca terminal and insert it back in to the head unit now with the other end of the wire screw it to the mettle casing of the head unit ONLY DON'T EARTH IT TO THE CAR after you have done that to all you rca's the noise will be gone try it trust me it works

Ended up buying a new Headunit yesterday. After alot of thought, i decided to go back to a SONY headunit as i find them much easier to use and tune in comparison to my PIONEER HD, which even with the instructions, i still couldnt seem to get a grasp on using it after 6 months.
The buzzing sound is still there with the SONY HD, but it seems slightly quieter. So for now im going to just leave it alone until i have the time to pull the carpet out and have a good look at how the wiring has been routed and go from there.

Sounds like a bad earth?
Earth the stereo to the body of the car inside Ur console, like a metal bracket that is part of the main structure, make sure u sand the spot to bare metal, solder a ring terminal to Ur earth wire, get a spring washer & a self tapping screw & screw the terminal down tite, make sure u don't go to hard or u will shred the whole out & it'll be loose, it must be tite so as to get maxim earthidge!
Do the same to ur amps where ever there mounted make sure the terminal is tite against bare metal!
Incar entertainment is my trade, this method of earthing has fixed all the buzzin noises I've come accross over the years, 9times outa 10 the factory wiring offers a s**t earth that passes thru a whole lotta other wiring b4 it gets to earth, a direct earth is always better!
Oh & 1 last tip, never run Ur audio cables along with Ur Lpower cables ie; amp power cable & rca's or speaker cables, this will also creates engine noise or weird frequecys comin out Ur speakers!
Power, earth & trigger(remote) wires run down 1 side , RCA & speaker wires runn down the other side!
Hope this helps
Any1 else with Audio & Video questions , fitting , or custom work & sub boxes hit me up, I'll see if I can help, it's wot I do !
