Subs in rear hatch?

A while back when I was working on the rear hatch, I noticed holes for what I assumed used with speakers.
Now wondering, rather than butcher the parcel shelf (rattling bastard of a thing) why not mount some subs in there.

Anyone done this?
Too rattly?
Ineffective?

Also. Ive installed a Clarion 4 channel amp and have not used the remote (sens.) wire (accessory 12v). Ive just bridged the 12v batt to the remote terminal. As yet I have not had a flat battery (standby current drain must be low), but is this really good practice?

Many thanks,
Gonz.

Nah dude that blue wire only gets like a small pulse from the blue remote wire on ur unit, it,s not ment to get a continual current of 12v, u may fry sum thing in ur amp, or decreese it's life span?
Yeh it can be attached via the accessory wire but the unit just sends enuff signal to switch it on & switch it off .
Hope this helps

P.s post a pic of where u lookin to position the sub, mite be able to help with ideas, I'm toying with a couple ideas for my own?

Thanks for your reply.

Will take a pic of a hatch and post it for ya.

Managed to find the Clarion manual. Should be pretty basic to wire DC to it. HOWEVER if nothing is connected to the REM terminal (I called it remote....my bad) then nothing works.

Its labeled "Remote turn-on input". I assumed it was a 12v sens wire from the accessory. No further mention about it in the manual. Any way, with 12volts on it, everything works fine.

Remote power wire comes from the head unit. Running the amp with permanent power will drain the battery fairly quickly if it's a s**t battery

Also I doubt you'll fit a sub in the tailgate let alone have it sound any good  haven't measured the holes but I'm fairly certain they would be 4 inch.

They look like a 5x7 holes, I've got a pair that'll fit Poyfect in that spot!
I want a nice clean parcel tray everything is goin in a factory position except the subs and amps ofcourse but all speakers have a spot!

P.s u may have 2 blue wires coming from ur unit 1 with a white stripe 1 solid blue , usually solid blue will be ur remote/trigger (rem) & the white striped 1 will be for a power antenna?

if you have the original book, the 4" holes in the hatch are made for the stock rear speakers. dont see them often though.

Same as the "vents" on the qtr trims either side of the rear seat  not many have the factory speaker mounts

I was lucky enough to find a set in a car I parted out years ago, they quickly landed in the missus' car.
