hey guys whats the best oil to use in my ignis sport the temps out here in barbados get up to about 30-32 degress c so what would u guys recomend ??

im from Trinidad right next door .... been using mobil one 10w-40 (i think) for the past 5 years problem free. a few others use amsoil

I use 20w40 and live in tropical north queensland.Working fine for me .10w 40 is fine also .I Just use 20w40 because its just a little thicker and I believe a little better suited to the tropics but its your call.

Huh? at operating temperature 10w-40 and 20w-40 are exactly the same viscosity, just make sure it's semi synthetic at the minimum as synthetic doesn't break down due to heat as quickly as straight mineral oil.

Thats right at operating temperatures .We dont see to many single digit figures temperatures up here so a little bit thicker at start up never hurts.Like i said its your choice.

10w40 oil will also break down faster than 20w40.

The original manufacturers spec is 5W-30. Unless there is something wrong with the motor (worn rings, leaking head gasket, valve stem seals, etc), there is no logical reasoning to stray from a 5W series oil. I'm running a fully synthetic 5W-40 on a motor with 104,XXXkm; the higher hot viscosity is allowing for the warmer climate here in Queensland Australia. 5W-50 or 5W-60 (available in Mobil 1 and Penrite) could be used in more extreme climates to maintain oil pressure at high temperatures. The thickest recommended oil from factory is 10W-40 and I would advise only using a 10W-30, 10W-40 or 10W-50 (depending on your local climate) if the motor is becoming worn and showing symptoms of one of the aforementioned problems.

I noticed someone plugging 20W-40 for use in an Ignis Sport... Generally speaking, 20W-40 is a long outdated viscosity in Australia; mostly only used for agricultural machinery, marine and motorcycles and usually pure mineral oil with an API rating of SG or less (current standard is SN). Another point to note is that in 2003 when the Ignis Sport was released, SL was the current standard. Furthermore, a winter viscosity of 20 is far too thick to circulate effectively around a modern engine - especially on startup and at high revs. To the best of my knowledge, the kinds of brands that would supply a 20W-40 for automotive use would not be reputable industry leaders, but rather, generic brands (black and gold, coles smart buy, gulf western, home brand, etc) and would be of questionable quality.

I have spent a number of years studying oils and I hope this helps to dispel some of the myths and heresay. I can go into more detail if required but this should be enough info to assist people to make an educated choice
