So I hear the Holden Cruze from the early 2000s has gearbox issues -

http://www.wakelineautomotive.com/recon ... e-gearbox/

"The original differential carrier is a major weak point within the gearbox, and is prone to breaking and causing major damage to the case and internals of the gearbox, unfortunately there is no warning when or where this may happen"

Anyone know if any internals are shared with either the standard Ignis or Ignis Sport gearboxes? Or is it solely to do with the 4wd part of the box?

The problem with the diff is most likely related to the offset drive that runs into the rear transfer case. Pretty obviously a design based on price and not strength, and specific to the Cruze.

It is the diff carrier that has a problem, the carrier drives the rear drive via a splined shaft.
There are upgraded carriers available as this is a very common failure(due to the very poor design!!)..
This part is not the same on ignis or ignis sport.

Are there upgraded carriers from Holden/Suzuki (supersede)? or only aftermarket?

Interested to know if this problem is solved.. and how much power it will take 8-[
